Dr. Thomas Ruch is an expert in biocatalysis and chemical process development, currently holding a position at Novartis in Chemical and Analytical Development (CHAD). With a strong background in organic chemistry and biocatalysis, Dr. Ruch has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of biocatalytic processes within Novartis.
Thomas joined Novartis CHAD in 2001 as Post Doctoral Fellow and got promoted to Lab Head in 2003. Ever since he has been working on early and late phase projects in CHAD. His expertise lies in the identification of biocatalytic approaches in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and their optimization to enable gram to multi-kilogram scale synthesis. Thomas’ contributions to biocatalytic approaches have significantly improved the environmental footprint and cost-efficiency of pharmaceutical manufacturing at Novartis.
Key Contributions:
Development of enzyme-based processes for sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Work in optimizing enzyme performance for large-scale industrial applications.
Application of biocatalysis in the synthesis of complex active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Field of Expertise: Biocatalysis, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Process Development of APIs
